    So depressing.

  2. Why were there two miters and two tiaras on the altar? Wouldn't he just need one of each?

  5. Rubrics for Pontifical Masses require [usually] two mitres, out of the three types [mitra pretiosa, mitra auriphrygiata, mitra simplex].

The Precious and Orphreyed mitres are present on the altar in the above-photograph. There placement would be seen at any Pontifical Mass offered by a bishop who, for the occasion and according to the rubrics, made use of the two mitres.

The presence of the two tiaras has me at a loss. Perhaps they have a precious and simple version of those, too?
